CAN I HAVE MASSAGE WHEN I HAVE COLD OR FLU?
Many people wonder if it’s ok to have a massage when you are sick? In short, the answer is NO, especially in the early stages. Your body is already working hard to fight the infection, the increased metabolic waste that is released into the body during a massage will put more strain on the already overloaded system and can often actually make you feel worse, NOT better. If you are not well enough to go to work (and you should not go to work when you are unwell), you are not well enough to have a massage!
It’s also hard to tell what kind of SICK you are, and due to stringent rules around contamination, we are not able to treat patients during this time. Your infection can quickly spread, as all it takes is a few droplets in the air, especially to other patients who are immune compromised. You also put your massage therapist in danger of catching your cold or flu. We CANNOT WORK when we are sick.
I don’t think I’m contagious. Should I reschedule?
Yes. You cannot know for sure whether or not you can spread viruses or bacteria. You may spread an infection one day before symptoms develop. You may spread a virus if you still have symptoms—even if you have almost recovered. You may spread bacteria until you take an antibiotic for 72 hours, and your symptoms have subsided.
Symptoms include: (no double gap between items on the list)
Runny or stuffy nose
Muscle, chest, or joint pain, body aches
Fever or feeling feverish/chills
Vomiting and diarrhoea (more common in children)
So PLEASE, stay at home, rug up, eat well, hydrate, rest and recover, and take care of yourself.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT ON THE FIRST VISIT?
You will need to fill in a Client Health History Form and undertake an Initial Assessment (Myotherapy & Remedial Massage).
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO A MASSAGE or MYOTHERAPY TREATMENT?
Comfortable clothing and underwear you do not mind getting little bit of oil on. We use water soluble oil which washes easily in 30C and does not leave stains. If you have long hair you may need to tight it back. Remove your jewelry and PLEASE, turn OFF your mobile phone.

CAN I CLAIM A REBATE THROUGH MY PRIVATE HEALTH FUND FOR SERVICES PROVIDED AT MASSAGELINE?
If you have cover for remedial massage therapy or myotherapy than YES, you can claim. We are registered remedial massage therapists and myotherapists with MOST of the health funds. We do, however, advice you to check with your health fund if there are any conditions placed on your level of cover.
HOW LONG IS THE TREATMENT and WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE?
Our standard appointment is 60min. For the 60min, YOU are the Superstar, and everything revolves around you. You are the reason we are in the room. The clock does not start until you walk in the room (If you are late for your appointment, we may have to make the most of what time we have left, so we don’t inconvenience the next client. We will charge the full fee).
Each treatment will be personalised for the individual and what condition they present with on the day. Assessment, hands-on treatment and post-treatment recommendations are all involved in one appointment.
